In a significant push towards strengthening journalist welfare, Telangana has unveiled a major accreditation initiative aimed at covering all eligible media professionals across the state.

Announcing the decisions, Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that the government plans to issue over 46,000 accreditations—nearly double the previous count—setting a new benchmark in support of the media fraternity. Applications for accreditation will be accepted until May 10, while distribution of cards across all districts is scheduled to begin on May 1.

Providing key updates, the Minister revealed that around 2,800 accreditation cards have already been approved. He emphasized that the process will remain continuous, ensuring journalists can retain or update their accreditation even when they change organizations. He further stated that comprehensive welfare measures will be expanded once the final number of accredited journalists is determined.

In a relief measure, the validity of bus passes for journalists has been extended until May 15, ensuring uninterrupted access to transportation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister said enhanced healthcare and welfare schemes for journalists are in the pipeline.

Media Academy Chairman Srinivas Reddy and Information and Public Relations Commissioner G. Mukundh Rao were present on the occasion.
