Telangana Revenue, Housing and I&PR Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has directed officials to complete identification of beneficiaries and allocation of all pending 2BHK houses across the state by the end of May.

Reviewing housing, revenue and forest matters with public representatives and officials from erstwhile Medak and Karimnagar districts at the Housing Corporation headquarters, the Minister stressed expediting construction of houses in the final stages. He announced that incomplete units will receive additional financial support of up to ₹5 lakh under the Indiramma Housing Scheme after adjusting previous expenditure.

In cases where contractors fail to complete works, beneficiaries will be allowed to take up construction themselves, with funds released through a green channel mechanism.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, SC/ST Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Government Advisor H. Venugopal, among others.

Public representatives flagged issues such as incomplete houses, lack of basic amenities, and ineligible occupants. Responding swiftly, the Minister directed District Collectors to remove ineligible beneficiaries and reallocate houses to deserving families with involvement of local MLAs.

An allocation of ₹400 crore is being utilized to develop infrastructure in 2BHK colonies, including electricity, drinking water, drainage and roads. Houses allotted but not occupied will be cancelled and reassigned.

Issuing a stern warning, the Minister said any irregularities in bill payments will attract strict action, including dismissal from service.

Aligned with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision, the government reiterated that poverty alone will be the eligibility criterion under the housing scheme, irrespective of application timelines. Officials were instructed to ensure genuine beneficiaries receive the benefits.

The Minister also noted misuse in the distribution of free sand (40 tonnes per beneficiary) and directed Collectors to ensure transparency and frame guidelines to prevent irregularities.

Highlighting misuse of allotted houses, he said beneficiaries renting out homes or refusing to occupy units located away from urban areas will face cancellation, with houses reassigned to eligible nearby families.

Zero Tolerance on Government Land Encroachments

The Minister emphasized that there will be no compromise on protection of government lands and warned of strict action against encroachments. To resolve long-pending boundary disputes between Revenue and Forest departments, he ordered joint surveys using modern technology.

He also announced administrative strengthening through reforms in land records and directed construction of Sub-Registrar, MRO and RDO offices in district and constituency headquarters. No new revenue divisions or mandals are proposed at present.

Minister D. Sridhar Babu urged officials to treat the housing scheme as a flagship programme and ensure all sanctioned houses are grounded and completed without delay.

30 kW Rooftop Solar Plant Inaugurated

Earlier, Minister Ponguleti inaugurated a 30 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Housing Corporation headquarters, expected to generate around 4,500 units of electricity per month, leading to significant energy savings.
