Hyderabad, August 23, 2026: The Government of Telangana, through the Office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, has issued a general health advisory urging citizens to take precautionary measures during the ongoing rainy season.

The advisory follows the week-long weather forecast issued by IMD-Hyderabad, which has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Telangana over the next seven days, along with alerts for heavy rainfall in several districts during the next three days.

The Health Department said the changing weather conditions, including lower temperatures and increased humidity, could lead to a rise in seasonal illnesses, particularly vector-borne, water-borne and airborne infections.

Precautions Against Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya

Citizens have been advised to take steps to prevent mosquito breeding and protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

People should:

● Secure doors and windows with mosquito nets or screens.

● Cover beds and cribs with mosquito nets.

● Use mosquito repellents as a precaution.

● Keep domestic drains clean and prevent water stagnation.

● Keep domestic septic tanks covered with mesh to prevent mosquito breeding.

● Observe “Friday – Dry Day” every week and remove stagnant water around homes.

Prevent Water-Borne Infections

The Health Department has also urged people to take precautions against acute gastroenteritis, jaundice and typhoid.

Citizens have been advised to:

● Drink filtered or boiled water.

● Wash hands, especially before and after meals.

● Avoid eating stale food from outside.

Guard Against Airborne Infections

The advisory also highlights precautions against viral fevers and influenza.

People have been advised to avoid shaking hands with someone who is sick, or when they themselves are unwell. Regular use of hand sanitiser has also been recommended to reduce the risk of infection.

Citizens should use a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing and follow basic respiratory hygiene.

The Health Department has advised that anyone developing flu-like symptoms, including cough with fever, headache, sore throat and associated body pains, should visit the nearest Government Health Facility for medical attention.

In case of a health emergency, citizens have been advised to call the 108 Ambulance Services.

Government Makes Arrangements at Public Health Facilities

As part of precautionary measures, the Government has made elaborate arrangements across public health facilities. These include the availability of special beds, IV fluids and essential medicines to meet any health emergencies arising during the rainy season.

The department also stated that medicines and ORS sachets are available with ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers to meet exigencies at the community level.

The advisory was issued by Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, Director of Public Health & Family Welfare, Telangana, who urged citizens to remain cautious and follow the recommended preventive measures during the rainy season.
