—In an effort to further strengthen sanitation and raise public awareness, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is implementing a special sanitation drive across all 300 wards of the city, with a focused theme each day. The intensive campaign is progressing at a rapid pace.

On the seventh day of the drive, special focus was laid on the removal of garbage and cleaning activities around transformers and electricity poles across the city.

The special sanitation drive, which began with the cleaning of foot over bridges on the first day, has covered a wide range of locations over the past seven days. These include flyovers, roadsides, dividers, central medians, kerb stones, lakes, nalas, footpaths, parks, and construction & demolition (C&D) waste sites, along with areas near transformers and electricity poles.

Under GHMC limits, sanitation works were carried out at 1,579 identified areas, points, foot over bridges, flyovers, garbage vulnerable points, and parks across 300 wards. As part of the drive, an additional 1,663 metric tonnes of solid waste and 617 metric tonnes of construction debris have been removed so far.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan is continuously monitoring the implementation of the special sanitation programme. Following his instructions, Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners are conducting surprise inspections to ensure effective execution of the drive at the field level.

The GHMC aims to continue the campaign with sustained intensity to improve city cleanliness and encourage citizen participation in maintaining hygiene across Hyderabad.
