Prayagraj | January 3, 2026

Devotees thronged the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Saturday to take a holy dip on the occasion of Paush Purnima, marking the beginning of the annual Magh Mela. Despite the biting winter cold and dense fog, pilgrims gathered in large numbers from the early hours to perform sacred rituals at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.

Paush Purnima is considered one of the most auspicious bathing days in the Hindu calendar, symbolising spiritual purification. The district administration deployed heavy security and made elaborate arrangements for crowd control, medical assistance and essential facilities. The Magh Mela will continue over the coming weeks with several important bathing dates expected to draw lakhs of devotees.
