VISAKHAPATNAM: A six-year-old boy died at King George Hospital (KGH) after allegedly collapsing following an assault by a school teacher over homework at a private school in Visakhapatnam on Thursday morning.
According to the available CCTV footage, the teacher allegedly pulled the boy’s shirt and slapped him during the classroom incident. The child was seen crying before he suddenly collapsed unconscious into the teacher’s arms. The teacher reportedly attempted to wake him before he was taken to KGH.
The boy later succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The child’s family has alleged that the school authorities did not immediately inform the parents, despite their contact numbers being available with the class teacher and school management. The family further alleged that the school recorded in the hospital admission note that the boy had collapsed while playing on the school grounds. However, the family claims that the school does not have a playground.
Following the child’s death, the grieving parents and relatives staged a protest at KGH, demanding the immediate arrest of the teacher and strict action against those responsible.
Police from Vizag One Town Police Station have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police have reportedly taken possession of the CCTV footage from the classroom, which allegedly captures the teacher slapping the child.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 9 am. Police are examining the CCTV footage, statements of school staff and other witnesses, and the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Further details are awaited.
