Visakhapatnam: A Friendship Day outing ended in tragedy after two youths were swept away by strong waves at a beach in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. According to preliminary reports, the duo was taking photographs near the shoreline when a sudden surge of waves pulled them into the sea.
Police, lifeguards, and local fishermen immediately launched a search and rescue operation after the incident was reported. Efforts to trace the missing youths were continuing till the latest reports, while their identities were yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the risks of venturing too close to the sea during rough weather and high tides. Authorities have repeatedly advised visitors to avoid entering restricted areas, stay away from the water’s edge during turbulent sea conditions, and refrain from taking selfies or photographs in dangerous locations.
Officials have urged tourists and beachgoers to strictly follow safety advisories, especially during weekends and public celebrations, as strong currents and sudden waves can pose a serious threat to life.
